With 10 national titles, 8 cup and 2 league titles, Lyn is one of the most–winning and successful clubs in Norwegian football history, and an old and well–known Norwegian football club.

The club was founded in 1896 and initiated the foundation of the Norwegian Football Association in 1902. Lyn has a long and honourable history within its two main sports skiing and football. The club highlights are the Olympic gold medals won by Alf Andersen in 1928 and Ivar Formo in 1976, both in skiing.

SFK Lyn Oslo won the double in 1968 and was the first Norwegian team to qualify for a quarterfinal in the European Cup. Six players from FC Lyn Oslo were part of the Norwegian team that won the bronze medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Lyn`s Arne Brustad was, until 1994, the only Norwegian with a goal in the world cup. One of the bronze medal winners from 1936, Jørgen Juve, still has the Norwegian record for most international goals.

Nowadays Lyn play in the Norwegian Tippeligaen.

FC Lyn Oslo has several internationals including Icelandic internationals Indridi Sigurdsson and Nigerian U21–player Paul Obiefule, Ivory Coast–player Davy Claude Angan, Australian Shane Peter Stefanutto, and U19 goalkeeper Arnar Darri Petursson representing Iceland. Several of the younger players have caps for Norway U–21, U–19 and U–18, and Sweden U–21, while Tommy Berntsen is the only players in the current squad who have had international call–ups for Norway at the highest level.

Erik Langerud (42) is the clubs CEO, and he succeeded Morgan Andersen who joined Fredrikstad in November 2006. Erik Langerud har previous experience from SAS (Scandinavian airlines systems) and the Norwegian Ski Association.

Lyns manager is Kent Bergersen, and he follows Henning Berg who was released from his contract with the club in september 2008 alongside Torgeir Bjarmann, the clubs former director of sports, both signed for rival Lillestrøm SK. His assistans are Svein Roger Pettersen, the clubs previous top player developer, and former Oldham, Bradford, Leeds United and Wolverhampton–player Gunnar Halle.

Director of Sports is Rolf Magne Walstad, who joined Lyn from his job as Director of football from Lyn ⁄ NTG, Lyns Football Academy.

In July 2008 FC Lyn Oslos AS bought back the club from previous owner Atle Brynestad for 1 norwegian krone, and formed a new AS, named Lyn AS, wich is the current owner of the club.
